Video Transcript for CE Smith U-Bolt Kit for Round Trailer Axles Review

Speaker 1: Today, we'll be having a look at the CE Smith line of U-bolt mounting kits for mounting round trailer axles. Here's what our kit comes with. It's everything you need for replacing the U-bolts on a single axle on your trailer. We have 4 new U-bolts, you'll have 2 per side; 2 new plates, 1 per side; 8 new lock washers, you'll be using 4 for each side of the trailer; and 8 new nuts, again 4 for each side of the trailer. You can see how well our U-bolts grip around the contours of our axle. This'll keep the axle firmly attached to our leaf springs, so we don't have to worry about it slipping and sliding. Now because we have the zinc and the galvanized finish on our plate and our hardware, this will better protect them from corrosion from the elements, especially salt spray. It's not an issue if you decide to use them on a boat trailer such as this one.Now many of our customers have had to make a second phone call or send an email to us after they bought a new axle for their trailer because they found, once they tried to remove the old one or put the new one on, that they couldn't get their factory U-bolts off.

They had to cut them off, and now they're searching for a replacement. This kit will be a perfect solution for this problem here. Now many of our customers compared these to the Redline line of U-bolt kits. Now the main difference you're going to see between this one and those is that those do not have the galvanized or the zinc finish on the plates or the hardware, which will cause them to rust out faster. As you can see, we already have our new axle sitting on top of our leaf springs. Now this kit could work for an axle that sits on top or below your leaf springs. It works for both applications.

You don't need to worry if yours resides below, you can still use this kit for that. We'll start by taking our new U-bolts and dropping them over our axle on either side of our leaf spring. Now we'll take our new plate. We want to make sure that this flange right here faces down, this hole here in the center lines up with the alignment pin on our leaf spring, and we'll insert our U-bolts through the holes. Place on our lock washers, and we'll put that on our nuts. Now we can start to tighten our hardware, making sure we tighten them evenly as possible. Now we'll torque our hardware again, making sure we alternate to ensure that we're doing it as evenly as possible. And that completes our look at the CE Smith line of U-bolt kits for mounting round trailer axles..

etrailer has become my source for almost everything for repairing or upgrading our trailer, the replacement of broken leaf springs being the most recent project.
If you have questions about the correct part for your project, search the customer service frequently asked questions. There is a lot of helpful information in there that you may not find on other websites. You can also contact customer service if you don't find a useful answer.

Its been a year since the leaf spring replacement and there have been no problems.

You really know your way around a trailer! It looks great! What are you hauling? Im moving in a few weeks. Care to swing by and give me a hand? Just kidding.

by:

Box delivered with a torn open corner and packaging for one of U-bolt kits was opened as well. Several 3/4” split washers ended up missing but U-bolts, hangars and nuts were fortunately in the bottom of the box.

by:

The majority of the hardware was great. I had a couple of lock washers blow out during torque settings on the U-Bolts.

by:

Better than most of the 7/16th inch u-bolts found on many 3500 LB axles that come as original equipment. The u-bolts are well made and the plates are thicker and galvanized for better rust protection.

by:

Received my two orders and I'm impressed with the quality I see. I am in the process of cutting off the old rusted out fenders so it will be a little while before I can install the new springs and shackle kits. After that I can then install the new fenders and my trailer should be like new. Thank you for the help and prompt service.

by:

Thicker ubolts than original. Nice upgr ade

by:

etrailer is amazing.
My trailer got into
a tussle with a K-rail on the I-70 in Colorado. The trailer lost, bent axel and all that. One call to etrailer and Sara and two days later I'm back on the road. All the parts from MO toCO in such a short period of time. Thank you etrailer you are amazing.

by:

Fit great, easy to install, good quality parts. No issues after a year.

by:

Great customer service. Product shipped and arrived in a timely manner. I'll be installing the new axle on my flatbed trailer this week - weather permitting.

This set up all looks ok to me!

by:

Fit perfectly.

by:

Fantastic fast shipping will definitely deal with again

by:

Highly recommend! I first made the mistake and ordered from “the other trailer parts outlet” so it took 10 days from my order to receive missing and beat up broken China made parts. The other place didn’t want to replace but wanted me to repair at my time and cost. I called etrailer, ordered on Monday, received on Wednesday. No damage as they actually package the parts up correctly. I got brand name parts too. Lesson learned. If you are on the fence or shopping around. Save yourself 10 days, 5 phone calls and hassle. Shop etrailer first.

by:

They still seem to be doing there job and holding up!

by:

I expect these to last just as long as the ones they replaced, which were on for 20 years. The plate seems to be thicker than the original. Wish there was a more specific torque rating than just a recommended range.

by:

I upgraded from a single leaf 3500lb axle spring to a 4 leaf 4000lb axle spring and also upgraded the U-bolts. The upgrade went very well. Everything fit perfect. The trailer tire to fender clearance was only 1.5 inches (at best) before the upgrade, now it is 3.5 inches. This will help the tire from rubbing the fender on the rough and bumpy road that we have in the state.

by:

worked well - fit as intended, and after a year, no issues of any kind.

by:

Heavy Duty products

by:

Went on easy, torched to 75 and using it today

by:

I bought a trailer that someone had reversed the axle and did some “REDNECK ENGINEERING “on. I put the axle back where it was supposed to be by using U bolts I had ordered. Everything fit perfect. Now trailer is back like it was supposed to be, thanks to etrailer and Jane. She was so helpful and follow up on my order was exceptional. I know I can always count on etrailer to get what I need at a fair price. THANKS

by:

easy torched off bolts then put on new ones easier then cleaning all bolts and threads

by:

Everything was delivered very fast and well packaged great company to do business with !

by:

No problems or issues with quality. Assembly went well. The price was fair and shipment was packaged excellently. Freight was a little slow, possibly due to Covid or product shortage and across nation travel.
No problems with assembly due to attached paperwork.
Very good results.
Thank You.
